Community Service Month
Taking your community to the street

April is the month to observe everything from straw hats to staying aware of stress.  April is also Community Service month, and what better way to celebrate than with the members and owners of your community association.

Get your community involved in community service in many ways by first asking, “How do we want to help out”?  You may find that your owners and members have a pet project in mind already but haven’t known how to get started.  Perhaps you have a scouting family with a budding Eagle Scout who needs help with a project.  Maybe one of your elderly owners would love to see a group from the community trot on over to the senior center for a quick repainting of those dingy pea green walls.

Whatever you decide, getting your community excited about helping others is a great way to draw your community together.  Community service is one of the best ways to volunteer one’s time because there’s an endless list of needs, too few hands and there may be no better way to achieve the satisfaction that only comes from doing for others as you would have them do for you.

After you figure out how your members and owners would like to get involved, set up a date and time to hit the streets of your community and lend that helping hand.  Be prepared for a day (or more) of potentially hard work by packing up bottles of water, light snacks, some sort of portable shade if necessary, lawn chairs in case a quick break is needed and don’t forget that selfie-stick.  Are those still in style?!

And if your community has a Facebook page, be sure to post photos of your community service project online because you will no doubt inspire others to toss on a pair of sneakers and get out and help others as well.
